Continuous coverage from Wednesday September 21st
John Little @ Blogs of War, is blogging from Midtown Houston, and has the best minute to minute updates on 'Rita', as it slowly moves towards him...
Armed Citizens are fending off looters in Houston. O.K. the Texans are bearing arms, that's scary.
Bill Dyer has some excellent advice on who should go and who should stay put, including the timings of respective evacuations i.e. in some cases if you have not left by a certain time, you should stay put.
Kenny Pierce has a few evacuation tips, and is on the ground, telling us that there is less than 30% chance of getting even 40-mph winds at least in Austin, where he is. Better than 70-mph, but still promising to be a vicious Saturday.
Competence vs. Incompetence analogy in a photograph by another Houston blogger Jason Smith
Rita has turned up the volume to a CAT 5, and downgraded again to CAT 4 with winds at 150 miles per hour, remaining an extremely dangerous storm! The latest news is that it may actually miss Houston and Galveston alltogether, as it took an unexpected turn. Texas' Governor Rick Perry has ordered a mandatory evacuation, well sort of 'voluntary - mandatory' ....The Governor has recalled the National Guard from Louisiana.

Constant updates with Michelle Malkin
A very good chain of events so far by Joe Gandelman @ The Moderate Voice
Dr. Jeff Masters @ The Weather Underground Wunder Blog, tells us that Rita is the 3rd strongest Atlantic hurricane of all time, and elaborates on which way she might travel
Some more from Defence Tech, the military site, and Blog Houston with on the ground coverage
Some other bloggers from The Houston Chronicle: The Rita Blog, Eric Burger @ Sci-Guy and Stormwatchers, their experiment with citizen journalism.
Via Publius Rendezvous, who also has a perpetual update running on Rita
Our Ed Driscoll has an incredible story 'Nuking Hurricanes' on someone's crazy solution to it all! In fact read the whole string under 'The Perfect Storm', which albeit not all about 'Rita' makes a great read.
One of my favorites as always is Brad DeLong, and his summary of the Wunder Blog (above) is very informative.

Not as surreal as some crystal-gazing 'enthusiast' over at the 'Pro-American Forums'. He's going for broke and conjuring up some truly extraordinary dooms-day sentiments. WW-3, no less:
But, wait, he's just warming up: Don't miss it, it's a real treat...

What a terrible time people are having! It is so moving to read all the accounts. It is like reading the last days of our planet. Like standing and waiting for a thunder to strike and annihilate the earth. It's sureal.
