Thank you to Mark in Mexico for the story:
The Iranian government, citing "actions contrary to professional ethics in the past years and their distortion of the president's comments during his press conference on Saturday", has kicked CNN out of the country and banned CNN journalists from entering Iran.
The dustup concerns the alleged mis-translation by CNN of a Farsi word used by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejihad which, according to the Iranian culture ministry, means "technology". CNN translated it to mean "nuclear weapons".
I must say watching Christiane Amanpour's interview on CNN this Saturday, with the polished Iranian Chief Scientist in charge of their nuclear program, I could not believe this was the same Amanpour who I had seen pulverize many a powerful Statesman. She pussyfooted around and basically ended up letting him get away with absolute murder, holding an 'Iran will do as it pleases' speech .
I ended up jumping up and down like a woman posessed, and shouting the questions out at the TV screen, in response to some seriously misguided answers he gave. I don't remember reacting like this since I watched their now famous interview with another Thug-In-Chief the Zimbabwean Prime Minister Robert Mugabe.
I would like to think that some of the interview was censored, otherwise I reallly will lose every little bit of respect I had for Amanpour as the tough journalist and brilliant interviewer she once was.
Although what does it all mean, absolutely nothing.
UPDATE: Thank you to Liquid: CNN have apologized and they are back in.

You are an absolute master of imagery, Alexandra.

Looks like they have changed their minds now...
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has allowed CNN to resume operating in Iran after the US cable news network apologized for mistakenly quoting him saying Tehran was seeking nuclear weapons, state radio reported.

Great post, Alex.
Christianne Amanpour is a total liberal, pro-palestinian, anti-American, sympathesizer. Like, forever. Her journalistic philosophy, by her own admission, is "to make the world a better place."
Duh, her job is to report news, not to skew it towards her idea of "better world" stuff.
Why does anyone watch the Clinton News Network anyway?
Iran will be sure to let them back in prior to the invasion so that they can undermine morale.
All the best,
D. Ox

I never had much respect for her. And watching her lose her nerve at this of all times... oy.

I too saw the interview and am astonished that only a few days later I have failed to trace any mention of it anywhere; neither on CNN transcripts nor on the web. Surely this isn't normal, especially given the red-hot nature of the story and the high-profile of Christiane Amanpour? Especially as her family had to flee from Persia during the revolution. I am totally puzzled why her interview, albeit being aired on Saturday, seems to have completely vanished from the ether...
