The problem may be that courage hasn't had a good work out for quite some time in our free society. Poor courage has gone soft and lost it's strength and in some cases even become terribly atrophied. In the case of the MSM, I'm afraid that courage lies comatose. What a tragedy !!! The free-press betrays freedom itself ! An institution with the potential to protect and defend liberty , to unite people for a great cause, cowers and whimpers and refuses to demonstrate principled strength. Ah , where is the trumpet call that all free men listen for? The call to purpose? The call to exercise courage? It is drowned out by the cacophony of political competition, yes. But even more sadly than that, it is wasted. Freedom of speech : a precious and rare jewel to mankind. Available NOW at this moment in history, not always before and not necessarily forever after, but NOW !! And those with the power dare not. They collect their pretty darned good pay checks and have dinner with their colleagues. Their work affords them a certain amount of prestiege. How lovely. I wonder if ever, while the ice clinks around in their cocktail glasses, and the waiter asks them if they'd like to see the dessert menu, I wonder if ever they stop and think of what an incredible priviledge they squander and the price that all of mankind will probably pay for their ingratitude.

Sweden has caved. The Swedish interior police is now closing Swedish websites that publish Mohammed cartoons. See here:

Now that the Swedish police works as islamic thought control, I suggest we all report all unislamic goings on them. Let us keep them busy! The Swedish interior police can be contacted here:

There are a lot of factors that the general public (and the Congress) are not aware of and can not take into consideration in this long war.

Everyone is saying that Iran is stalling for time and that the general Muslim world community is becoming more encouraged by the lackluster, PC response of Bush and Co. Well, they are stalling for time as well. There are many reasons that the U.S. needs some additional time.
Many we can imagine, most that we know nothing about.

Also, remember its easy to be brave for yourself, but being brave when it endangers your countrymen is not so very easy.

Alexandra,

That last comment is the single most thought-provoking and profound thing you've ever posted at ATB...at least, since your original tribute to your father (which is the point from which I've read all of your posts and all of the comments).

Alexandra

Fausta,

My father used to say that you can never blame others for their cowardice. Everyone has different considerations and aspects to worry about. Some worry about their jobs, some their very lives, some their sponsors. One can only look to oneself and stand upright for what you believe in.

My father was betrayed many times by close friends, in a totalitarian regime, but he always forgave them. He said that they had considerations of their livelihood, which he did not have to worry about. They had considerations for their very lives, which my father had given to the cause of freedom long ago. They had considerations of their families' wellbeing, which my father did not have (when he married my mother he made his position clear, and she understood that, when I came along I simply was not asked. Heh.)

He forgave them, not because they know not what they do, but because they have the normal human weaknesses and survival instincts which my father gave up for the cause of freedom.

And again, he always said to me "Look to yourself, not to others. Don't ever rely on others to fight for YOUR freedom. They never will. They will always fight for their own version of it, which is relevant to their own little world. Very few people in history have truly fought for the good of mankind."

Fox? Hesitates to air Mohammed cartoons? You mean the Murdoch outfit of which the Wahabbis now have a nice oily piece? But that wouldn't affect anything. Would it? Western enterprise is still free. Isn't it?

Fausta

Michelle Malkin appears on Fox last night and tries to get the Muhammad cartoons aired.
Hitchens, too:
On Saturday, I appeared on CNN, which was so terrified of reprisal that it "pixilated" the very cartoons that its viewers needed to see.

A blogger, a writer, a leftist French newspaper and the staff of the NYPress have more guts than all of CNN.

Joshua Minton

Isn't it odd that so many Muslims are getting fired up over this supposed "mockery" of their religion when Christ was physically mocked, ridiculed, tortured, and put to death by the same ignorance which now fuels their anti-free-speech riots.

I know not all Muslims are like this, but the ones that are, aren't any better than scrounging animals convinced they've found God in something that appears shiny but which is actually only reflecting the light of the sun.

When will both sides begin looking to the source of the light instead of the finger pointing to it?

Does one have to be a Nietzsche to recognize the fiercest will to power?
